Proposed Amendment to Constitution and Bylaws
Daniel G. Rittersdorf
Article II, Section 7:
7: Officers may not be elected to more than two successive terms in the same office.
to be replaced by:
7: Officers may not be elected to more than three successive terms in the same office.
Note:
A term is defined in Article II, Section 9 as 1 Year:
“Officers of this organization shall serve for a term of one year, but may be reelected.”
Rationale:
The 2 successive term limit doesn't take advantage of experience gained, because once someone learns the job and how to do it well, they are no longer able to serve. Extending the limit to 3 years permits the boosters to take advantage of experience. Annual elections ensure that others are given equal opportunity to run for an office, and the limit of 3 years ensures that no one person monopolizes an office for the entire time one child is in band.
