Entertainment Book Fundraiser

On May 5th, the Sparta Band Boosters will kick off the 2008-2009 Entertainment Book fundraiser.  This fundraiser is for band students currently in grades 8-12.  The 2009 Entertainment book will pre-sell for $20 and students will deliver these books to the buyer in the fall.  In addition to this, all buyers will recieve a free 2008 Entertainment book which can be used from now until November.  For each book sold, students will recieve $5!  For every 5 books sold, students will recieve one 2009 book free (to sell or use for themselves).  Potentially, students can make $45 by selling five books and their free 6th book.

The goal of this fundraiser is to provide students with the opportunity to make money that can be used for band camp and the upcoming Memphis/Nashville trip.

Band Trip Payment

  Just a friendly reminder, the first Nashville/Memphsis band trip payment is due at the end of this month.  Please submit all payments along with the payment coupon to the Sparta Band Boosters (address on the back of the coupon).

Band Day

The 8th grade clinic/band day at the HS was a success.  I would like to thank the band boosters and the two 8th grade parent volunteers (Mrs. Shanahan and Mrs. Lewis) for providing pizza for us that day.  A CD recording of some of the 8th grade sessions will be given to Mr. Z. on Monday.  8th grade students interested in listening to the CD should contact Mr. Z. at that time.

Jazz Band Rehearsal

In preparation for the upcoming HS Jazz Band Concert, we will rehearse in the HS cafeteria on Monday, March 31st.  Jazz students should arrive at least 20 minutes earlier than normal so we can start at the regular 7am rehearsal time.

8th Grade Band Day

  The 8th Grade Band will spend a special day at the HS on Wednesday, March 26th.  Students will be transported to the HS in the morning where they will participate in band clinic with a special guest clinician.  At 11am, the 8th grade band will be joined by the HS Wind Ensemble and where they will play music selections together.  There will also be a time for 8th grade students to ask questions to current HS band students about band at Sparta High School.  A pizza lunch in the band room will be provided by the Sparta Band Boosters at 12:30pm.  The day will conclude with all Sparta 8th grade students arriving at the HS for a meeting with HS administration and a tour around the school with their HS "mentors".  The Concert Band will participate in a clinic by our guest clinician during 4th block.  Parents of 8th-12th grade are welcome to attend any or all parts of this day with your student!  I do ask that you call ahead to let me know if you will be visiting so I can provide adaquate seating in the classroom ahead of time.
